36 years ago on December 8, 1980, John Lennon was gunned down outside his home in one of the most senseless acts of violence, and though he’ll never grow old and he is a constant inspiration for musicians, and the symbol of peace… A state of mind he found in his adult life after living a messed up childhood and adolescence.
Now, I hate guns but I’m not going to turn this into a screed against guns. Any weapon in the wrong hands is a deadly one, and if a crazy person wants someone dead, they’re going to kill them. Guns, and more importantly easy access to them simply compound this problem.
I have not and will not mention the killer’s name, because I think the focus should be on John and the legacy he left behind.
And though he would have wished it weren’t so, Lennon’s words still ring just a true today as they did in his own lifetime.
“If everyone demanded peace instead
of another television set, then there’d be peace.”
Gone, but never forgotten.
