Mr Watson by Cruel Youth

What would I do without you?

Sunday by LEGENDS The Cranberries

And I didn’t find the words to say I love you…

Sometimes by My Bloody Valentine

I don’t know, maybe you could not hurt me now…

City Girl by Kevin Shields

I want you, I do.

I was devastated when I heard of the death of Dolores O’Riordan this morning, an idol of my teenage years is forever gone.

Dolores O’Riordan was the lead singer of the Irish band The Cranberries, a very successful alternative-rock band during the 90s, and the singer who created a new sound in rock music with her vocal cords that were between angelic and painful.

Dolores had a very UNIQUE voice and way of singing that made her step aside from the rest, and thanks to her all the singers with peculiar intonations that came after her (such as Alanis Morissette) were easily accepted.

The Cranberries was one of my favourite bands along with Garbage, but unlike Garbage, the Cranberries used their fame to denounce violence and war.

From the IRA (Irish terrorists) to the Bosnia genocide that nobody talked about or did anything to stop back then.

Have seen The Cranberries in concert was one the highlights of my youth.

I still can’t believe Dolores is gone, I still can’t believe it’s been over 20 years since I saw a giant billboard of the Cranberries in one of the main streets of Montreal promoting their latest albums, I still can’t believe we have learnt NOTHING about war, and I still can’t believe the music industry no longer invest on independent artist that not only
are talented but also have a social message other than TWERK, or show how rich they are.

And in the night I could be helpless
I could be lonely, sleeping without you
And in the day, everything’s complex
There’s nothing simple when I’m not around you

Thank you for the wonderful years, and may your soul find peace. Rest in POWER!

Whether it’s werewolves, vampires or the darkness, these songs may not be about Halloween, but they all have something sombre in them.
