My Favourite 90s Male Pop Bands

Few days ago I read on the internet that The Backstreet Boys have returned with new music… I played the song, it was okay.

Regardless, BSB have good (and now classic) pop songs.

During their prime in the 90s there were also many other catchy bands.

This recent comeback made me think about those disbanded acts, and gave me the idea to mention my Top 5 of those bands.

1- MOENIA

Mœnia is a Mexican band. Pop/electro/ambient. Popular within the Latin club scene while simultaneously pioneering a darker, more experimental, more poetic side of Spanish-language electronica. In 1991, the group scored a contract with PolyGram and recorded a debut album the following year.  However, in 1996 they recorded under Universal Music the album Mœnia and the success was massive. That album was perfection and to this day, one of my favourites of all time.

2- SOULDECISION

SoulDecision was a Canadian band formed in Vancouver in the earliest 90s. However, they got popular in the year 2000 with the excellent album No One Does It Better. Although, they only made two albums their great songs gave me life. My favourite Canadian pop act.

3- TAKE THAT

Take That is a now legendary English pop band formed in Manchester in 1990. Currently only with 3 members, the group originally was formed by Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Robbie Williams. Take That‘s music was part of my teenage years and they also marked special moments in my heart.

4- 2be3

2be3 was a French band formed in 96. Inspired by Take That and Worlds Apart, the group produced 3 studio albums and various compilations before disbanding in 2001. Their major success was the album Partir un Jour. Sadly, few years after disbanded, Filip (the main vocalist) was preparing a solo album when he died of a heart attack 2009. He was only 35 years old. Partir un Jour was another great album that marked my first years in Montreal.

5- BLUE

Blue is an English band was formed in the year 2000. Although they started in the new millennium I have to put them in the list ’cause they were and still are amazing. All the members have great voices and presence. Antony Costa, Duncan James (read: the hottest face of pop,) Lee Ryan and Simon Webbe… ‘Nuff said!

You’re very welcome!
